Area Median Income
Many funding sources for development of affordable housing require that funded programs serve families who are Low-Income or Very Low-Income. Data on Area Median Income (AMI) levels are used to determine who qualifies at what income level in any given area. Families at 50-80% AMI are considered Low Income. Those between 30-50% AMI are regarded as Very Low Income.
HUD publishes the Income Limits every year, usually around January/February. They can be found at www.huduser.org and click on Data Sets.
